About Memory Match
Memory Match, also called Concentration or Pairs, is a card game that has been played at kitchen tables and in classrooms for generations. All the cards start face down, and you turn two over at a time looking for a pair. It needs no reading skills and no special knowledge, which is why it works for young children as well as adults.
This version deals sixteen cards, eight pairs of illustrated animals, shuffled fresh every time. A perfect game takes eight moves, which relies on a lot of luck, so treat anything close to it as a great result. Your score starts at 1000 for a perfect game and drops by 50 for every extra move, with a floor of 100, so every careless flip shows up in the final number.
Memory games exercise short-term visual memory and attention. Rather than trying to hold all sixteen cards in your head at once, most good players work in chunks, noting the position of each new animal and of the cards that were just shown. When you flip a card you have already seen, use it right away to make a match on your next turn. The animals are drawn as simple vector illustrations so they stay sharp on any screen, and every card is large enough to tap comfortably on a phone.
Tips and strategies
- Work through the board in a fixed order for your first flips so you build a mental map quickly.
- Group the cards in your head by row or corner — 'top-left has the fox' is easier than a raw grid.
- When a mismatch shows you a card you have already seen, use it right away on your next turn.
- Do not rush. Every wasted flip costs score, so pause and recall before you pick.
